It is mind-boggling to find someone with the heart of Dr. Lorinda Liang, so kind and committed to developing and impacting lives in a country that has caused her the worst of troubles, from abuse and betrayal to defamation, which has seen her being a victim of extortion on numerous occasions. Just to give a background to the ordeal suffered by Dr. Lorinda while living in Ghana, Dr. Lorinda’s first visit to Ghana was occasioned by an invitation by former president of Ghana, H.E. John. A. Kuffour in the year 2000.
Dr. Lorinda who came to Ghana as a young beautiful entrepreneur and investor with over 250 million USD in her account at the time, had a good stay initially until she started falling prey to some selfish Ghanaians and government officials who were determined to extort as much money from her as possible. She was thrown into cells by policemen who were supposed to be protecting her, oftentimes in an attempt to get some thousands of dollars from her. Since 2008, she suffered numerous organized crimes and robbery attacks. And on March 11, 2011, Dr. Lorinda got kidnapped with the involvement of some government officials. She was kept in hostage for 9 months while being abused to try and get money from her; and during that period, several fake and defamatory news were spread about her. By the time she came out, a lot of damage has been done to her image with the fake stories. Her accounts were frozen, and the officials demanded a very large percentage in order to allow her transfer her money back to the United States.
Anyway, she prevailed and survived through those challenging times. Her commitment to impacting lives and being a blessing to humanity, as God loves, has never waned; a resilience her family in the US still struggles to understand. Despite the troubles she faced from these corrupt public officials which has only escalated over the years, especially in the last 4 years, Dr. Lorinda says she still loves Ghana and wants to see more people have improved lives.
Until now, Dr. Lorinda continues to pursue projects for Ghana’s development despite her agonizing experiences with especially corrupt public officials who will do anything for a few dollars. She operates a charity called Glory and Hope Foundation, and she also supports orphanage homes in Ghana with over 25,000 USD monthly. Who would imagine that someone who has suffered in the hands of corrupt government officials and has been backstabbed on countless occasions by people she helps or works with, as she narrates in her autobiography, will still have the heart to champion the construction of an unprecedented green energy smart city in Ghana. Nonetheless, through her exploits, Ghana is in the process to benefit from a project that will immensely improve the living conditions of thousands of Ghanaians. She calls it the Mega Star City project.
The Mega Star City Project is a modern smart city project that will see the development of 5-star to 7-star cities in eight different locations within the Greater Accra region of Ghana. These locations include Borteyman, East-Legon, Katamanso, Madina, Shai Hills, and Dodowa. The project is currently far advanced, as sites for the development and a fund total of 2.2 Billion USD for year 1 are ready for the commencement of construction works.
The project, as Dr. Lorinda explains, consists of a self-sustainable ecosystem, where agricultural products are internally grown, wastes generated are turned into energy and other products, there are quality ultra-modern education and healthcare facilities, there are religious and social centers for each home, and there are lucrative jobs that extend even to the general public who may not be living in these new cities. About 15,000 affordable mega city homes units are expected to be built under this project, and this will certainly play an instrumental role in reducing Ghana’s housing deficit.
The Lion Lady’s Mega Star City project is not only a housing solution; it is a project with the potential of changing the economic fortunes of Ghana. The City’s waste processing facilities, which are capable of turning all kinds of wastes into useful products, will help keep the country clean while creating both direct and indirect employment to Ghanaians.
